Welcome to the Department
of Nursing
The Department of Nursing at Western Carolina University offers a program
leading to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Two tracks are offered,
Pre-Licensure and RN to BSN. The Pre-Licensure Track is for
students who are preparing to apply to write the state Registered Nurse (RN) licensure examination. The RN to BSN Track is for graduates of diploma or associate degree programs in nursing who are currently RNs.
The Department
also offers a graduate program leading to the Master's of Science in Nursing
MS(N). Three tracks are available: (a) the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)
track with a post-master's certificate option and (b) the Nurse Educator
track with a post-master's certificate option, and (c) the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) track.
"The
mission of the Department is to prepare professional nurses at the baccalaureate
and graduate levels to address the health care needs of diverse populations
in the region. In accordance with its teaching mission, the Department
provides a scholarly atmosphere that stimulates service, research, and
creative activities by its faculty and students."
A career
in nursing is challenging, rewarding, and offers varied and exciting work
environments. More than at any other time, nurses prepared at the baccalaureate
and master's level are in great demand by health care employers. Our faculty
are invested in nurturing students as they prepare for their roles as
clinicians, teacher/educators, researchers, leaders, life-long learners,
and responsible members of society.
